This is the second one from the damline of McLain Ward’s medal-machine Sapphire in this auction and we are pleased to offer him. Zion van ’t Merelsnest is a special 3-yr-old with a strong take-off and lots of scope. He wants to be careful, has good movements and a big stride.

Sire Zirocco Blue is known for his scope and sharpness. He jumped at the highest level under Jur Vrieling for many years and supplied more than forty 1.60 Grand Prix horses of which Eddie Blue with Devin Ryan (USA) and Elysium with Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) are even placed at 1.70m level and Giborne VDL at 1.65m level with Daniel Coyle (IRL).

His dam Odina van ’t Merelsnest (Vigo d’Arsouilles) jumped his first international 1.40m level competitions under Millie Allen(GBR) as an 8-yr-old last year and is now performing under the 19-yr-old Conor McLaughlin (IRL).

Grandam Wendelina van’ t Merelsnest (Darco) has jumped at 1.50m level herself and is known for being the dam of  the successful 1.65m Grand Prix stallion Glasgow vh Merelsnest, who was part of the Dutch team under Jur Vrieling multiple times. Wendelina alos produced the 1.50m GP horses Edjaz van ’t Merelsnest, Karaat van ’t Merelsnest, Morton van ’t Merelsnest and Odin van ’t Merelsnest and seven horses at 1.40m to 1.45m level.

Great-grandam Idjaz-C supplied, in addition to Sapphire, another two 1.60m Grand Prix horses: Livius van ’t Merelsnest and Qarco van ’t Merelsnest and five horses at 1.50m level. This family produces top-sport horses!
